What One Cup of Coffee Will Do To You.

Dear Great State of Hawaii,
I miss you. A lot.
xoxo,
McMommy

***

Aloha McMommy,
How's it going? I haven't heard from you in a long time.
Mahalo,
Hawaii

***

Dear HI,

I know it's been awhile.
But this morning? McDaddy made a pot of Kona coffee.
And suddenly, I was transported 7 years.
Just sipping it took me back to a time where I had no responsibilities.
Not a care in the world.
I was newly married, in the best shape of my life, had perfectly waxed eyebrows, and well-manicured nails.

We went to bed late, woke up late, and our only major decision of the day was whether to order the macadamia encrusted yellowtail or macadamia encrusted mahi-mahi. Me, without a stitch of makeup, sipping my Kona coffee at breakfast in the gardens at our hotel.

Taken with the timer on the camera. Cause you do those kinds of cheesy things when you are newly married and don't have a care in the world.

We may have boats in Florida, but not with views of mountains in the background!

Sigh.

I heart you,
McMommy
***

Aloha McMommy,
Don't be so sad. You live in Florida!
xo,
Hawaii
***

Dearest Hawaii,
Easy for you to say.
It's 100 degrees out.
We are about to enter the peak months of hurricane season. (I wonder if CNN will call me again?)
And I get completely grossed out when I walk out on my lovely front porch, and see the bushes rustling, and discover this:

Ewwwww.
~Mcmommy

***

Aloha McMommy,
I see what you mean. Come back quickly.
I'll have your Mai Tai waiting for you.

One question though....
Macadamia encrusted yellowtail or mahi-mahi?

A hui hou,
The Great State of Hawaii

To my readers: If you could pick one previous vacation you could instantly go back to, which one would it be?

LOVE this (and your pics)! I so want to go back myself...11 yrs is way too long (and I was pregnant on that visit so no fruity drinks from the coconut for me...so not fair :o)

There was a little condo in Rocky-Point, Mexico. On the northern-most tip of the gulf of California.

No Cell Service
No Computers
Usually no electricity

I could fall off the porch and onto the beach.

The tidal shift was over 100 yards from high to low tide, with bands of sand an rock making for great tidepooling.

And all the cheap (good) tequila I could drink. ;-)

At least you've been to Hawaii. I'm still dreaming of that trip!

Thanks so much for the recommendations for our vacation this year. We are still making plans but will probably go with one of the places you suggested.

I would go back to Germany! I got to visit family there in 2007 and it was one of the most remarkable experiences of my entire life.

Your pictures are beautiful by the way! Thanks for bringing us along on your revisit to Hawaii! :)

You did not see this in your yard! I think I would have had a heart attack.

My kids would love to come to FL & rescue your porch critters.

I'll take some of that coffee with a side of Hawaii to go please.

Really gorgeous pics! I would go back to San Francisco in a heartbeat. Had so much fun, and it's such a beautiful, beautiful city!

I wish I could go back to Spain, where we decided to go for our honeymoon. I too was perfectly plucked, coiffed and exfoliated back then. I miss sleeping in, and having no schedule, and the biggest decision was white or red.

Oh my gosh! I have lived in FL my whole life and have never seen a creature like that! Of course the normal cuban anoles are everywhere, but I am pretty positive that thing is an escaped mutant from a pet store.... I'm just saying.

That would be a toss up between island hopping in Greece for 3 weeks pre-kids http://musingsofthemuddled.blogspot.com/2008/01/to-be-back.html or a week in a car cruising the Pacific NW coast on 101 ALONE post kids.. http://musingsofthemuddled.blogspot.com/2008/10/washington-oregon-when-moms-go-wild.html

I would take either but I would add the husband into the mix with both.

London - I split a week between Paris & London and London got the short end of the stick time wise. Need more time to wander the streets and enjoy the hidden jems that are only found off the beaten path.

You are so beautiful! :) I would def. go back to Hawaii (& that yummy coffee!!) again - but, most desperately - I want to go back to Napa/Sonoma....something about the food, the wine, the mountains - being ALONE with my husband...pure bliss!

Well, I have never been on any great vacations (no joke, I've only been camping as family vacations, and I'm too poor to go on a fun one now), but I am moving to Florida in a little over three weeks, and you just made me a heck of a lot less excited about it..... I hope I don't find any iguana's in my backyard... Yuck! Although, I was informed we have an alligator living in the river behind our house... Oh wonderful....

Oh my! I could have written that post...well, except I am in landlocked Colorado! But our honeymoon was the same...in hawaii! Oh man! i want to go back SO bad! Oh, and I would take that lizard any day! What do i see outside my place...ummm...the occasional rabbit, fox, and roly poly!

Same, Hawaii, but Maui this time. We went to Kauai nearly 4 years ago and I still daydream about it and also still smell the beauty of it in my dreams!

Sarah said...

Ohh, good question. And I kind of wish I was in Hawaii.

My favorite vacation ever was to... gosh, this is hard.

Mine's a tie, between Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (not sure if I spelled Geneva right) and San Diego, CA.

I'm lucky that I have been living in vacation mode for 2 years. In 2 days I'm headed to Luxembourg, in 2 weeks- Austria, and in 3 weeks- Poland. I have a feeling that in a year I will be writing letters like this to Europe...

Our honeymoon to Maui was amazing! We definitely want to go back. So funny you posted this. Our honeymoon was when I went from a Starbucks loving, occassional morning coffee lover to an every morning coffee girl. I bought Kona coffee again last week and have been brewing it everyday since. Yum!

Maui definitely I would cut off my right arm to go back there today. Okay maybe not my whole arm but y'know. p.s. people should not be allowed to look that good without makeup!

I am six years old and wake up in a Georgia motel (in the days before the interstate) with the mumps (in the days before the MMR immunization). Since it's the last Florida va-kay with all 5 kids, my parents call the pediatrician and get her okay to continue the trip. For 5 days I had to stay in our cottage or play in the little yard outside with my dad nearby, while my 4 older sibs and mom went shopping and did day trips. My dad was delighted to have a reason to take a well-deserved break from career and little ones, and I have the memories of those days of his undivided attention and love -- all the more dear since he passed a couple of years ago. He loved the ocean, and I like to think he's waiting on a beautiful beach for the rest of us.

I would absolutely go back to Hawaii. We went with a bunch of family this past March and it was a blast (I was born there and that nearly makes me a "native", right?). :-)

Someday I want to go to Hawaii...my parent's say I have been, since they went when my mom was pregnant with me, but since I couldn't see anything, I don't count that. :p

I would go back to Europe. A week in Paris and a week in a small town in Germany. One week of crazyness, learning and absorbing. The second week was peaceful, restful and a different type of learning. It was a wonderful spring break.

You were a beautiful new bride mcmommy :)
My favorite was the Alps tour I went on with my husband. I loved just hanging out, enjoying the food and the mountains--and the cool crisp air :)

you're gorgeous!!
i've never been to hawaii. personally, i would trade my 2nd born step child for a house overlooking the ocean somewhere on a cliff in mexico but...
sigh

The time I loaded up the family truckster and drove the family across country to Wally World, stopping at the Grand Canyon along the way was great.

But Damn if it wasn't closed when I got there. I went a little ape.

Hmmmm...having not been many places, I would say Mexica...Playa del Carmen...mostly for the same reasons as you..not a care in the world, slept in, took naps and didn't do much else.

Ooooh...Adventure of the Seas Southern Caribbean cruise! That was the best trip EVER!

We went to Jamaica for our honeymoon and hope to go back...all you can eat, all you can drink and not a care in the world!

I went on a trip to Alaska in 2000. It was such a great trip. It was relaxing - great scenery - no swimwear. It was sort of an ideal vacation. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

But with that said - I really, really, really want to go to Hawaii. I'm not really sure why since I'm not totally a "beach" person, but the draw is still there...cocktails in pineapples on the edge of the sand with the wind whipping through your hair and a really hot cabana boy....oops...nevermind! =)

Jennifer said...

I too heart Hawaii!!!! Even our Mediterranean cruise could not compete. I think there is something in the air!

That green thing in the bushes is FREAKING me out, ugh! And I love your pictures from your honeymoon...you cute little lovebirds!

I would love to go back to Italy, but my favorite vacation spot is also definitely Hawaii. My parents bought a house there a few years back so we have a place to vacation, so much better than a hotel. I love Hawaii...not a care in the world there!

Send me your address via email honey... I have a treat coming your way. I too am a huge HI fan and will happily share a fond memory via mail from me to you..... Maholo!

New Zealand. Incredible mountains, whisper-peaceful kayaking on fjords, gorgeous beaches.

Hawaii. Sea turtles, snorkling, pounding surf at night outside our balcony, perfect beaches where the road dead ends.

*sigh* Basically, places that would now require a solid 12 hours OR MORE of torture on airplanes with two small children, which would all be worth it to get there, but which, on the way back, might ruin the tranquility of the past two weeks.

Look how beautiful you are! Gorgeous pictures! How about you and hubby go back for your 10 year anniversary? I think that is a must. Then you can blog about it! So you have to go! ;)

I cannot pick just 1 vacation to go back to! That is way too hard. Hmmm... okay, back to Cayman Islands. Best beach I've ever been on/swam in. But Aruba was pretty perfect, too... honeymoon... I mean, it was just wonderful! But then there was that one summer in Greece, when I was a teenager and would swim all day in the sea and go out late at night, the year I first went to Santorini... sigh. Greece. I love you! And I also love each and every time I'm in Florida. So. I'm not answering this question!

No brainer: Camping in the Black Hills with the hubby. We hiked, went to a natural hot springs water park, and ate yummy grilled food. We even passed a town called 'Winner' and joked about how we were NOT winners because I tried to take a picture of the sign for the town and completely missed it. That, hands down, is our favorite, "Remember when..." vacation.

I agree with Jenni, the Southern CarIbbean Adventure of the Seas criuse was the most amazing time ever. I could have stayed on the beach in Antigua forever. When I am completely stressed and in need of an escape I often find my mind running to those memories. Our 10 year anniversary is in a year and a half and we hope to get to go again (although, it may end up being the 15th, but it is still something to look forward too).

Kristy said...

I'm right there with you! I've been to Hawaii 3 times and I am crossing my fingers that we will be able to go again soon. (Although it will be a bit different going with 3 kids as opposed to 0 kids!!)

My favorite summer activity is to sit in the sun with my eyes closed listening to my Hawaiian music on my ipod. It's almost as if I'm there - except I can't seem to replicate the most wonderful smell of the flowers. (esp. when you step off of the airplane!)

Sigh :)

I would have to say Majesty of the Seas Caribbean cruise. Grand Cayman was the most beautiful place I have ever been. The water was unbelievable! They lost our luggage, so we had to buy clothes off the ship - hubby ended up with white swim trunks that were very see-through when wet :)

P.S. Is any couple cuter than you two????

First, cool pictures! I am just itching to go to Hawaii. Next, I would be on a plane to Paris in an instant if I could. I loved that city.

My honeymoon, a month hiking in Nepal. Same reasons you love Hawaii - no kids, no responsibilities...just had to walk to get to the next village.

I love Hawaii. Maui is my fave island. But I'd love to go back to New Zealand. I had a fabulous time there. It's beautiful, fun, with great people and lots to do.

Colleen said...

So the honeymoon trip to Tahiti and Moorena in the French Polynesian Islands. This time though I'd also include an all day pass for us at the resort spa. I'd also appreciate the trip a lot more cuz with two kids, it ain't happening any time soon!!

AnchorMommy said...

Seven years ago? Me too! Except our honeymoon was on Kauai. I think I read a tweet from you yesterday that said you thought Kauai was too slow or something, but I actually liked it better than Maui for that reason.

Anyway, now you have me longing for Kona coffee and wanting to go back also. Thanks a lot. ;-)

We took our first vacation together is past March. We had a quick wedding with no time for a real honeymoon and had 2 babies in 26 months sooooo we decided we needed a honeymoon/babymoon.

We took a cruise to the Bahamas. It was the best 5 days of my life. People wait on you hand and foot. You just have to lay there. The food was excellent and the quiet time was amazing. We would go back at the drop of a hat!

It's been over 10 years since I went to Hawaii, but since then my favorite vaca was when we (+kids)went to Marco Island, which would be pretty convenient for you, right?!?!

Definitely Ireland.
We stayed in a little thatched roof B&B on the Aran Islands - within walking distance of Dún Aonghasa. I'll never forget it.

About your lizard - that's actually kinda cool. I bet the boys love it! But I could totally see how freaked out I would be if one of those was IN MY HOUSE.

Krystal said...

Okay, yeah them lizzards/ iguanas/ dinosaurs gotta go!!!

If Ihad one vacation that I could go back to - it would be when I spent a month in Buckinghamshire England studying the works of Thomas Moore. Yeah, I have brains too! Who knew huh?

I've never been to Hawaii, but I'd love to go one day. The way it is portrayed on television and movies makes it look gorgeous, so I can only imagine how it is to actually be there and see the wonder and magic that is Hawaii.

Elaine A. said...

Ok, it is SO NOT FAIR that you have NO makeup on in that picture! Just saying...

We actually had a WONDERFUL trip to Palm Springs (in your great state) and another to Destin that I would do all over again. I love Florida! : )

ZenMom said...

Awww, memories! This was great. Hawaii Honeymoon or Hawaii First Anniversary would be my destination of choice too. We would love to live on the Big Island or Kauai. Since you and Hawaii are so close as to be pen pals and all, maybe you could put in a good word for us. :)

People have serious misconceptions about living in FL, don't they? I spent the first 18 years of my life there...then returned for Grad School...then back again a few years later..and now I'm just above the state line in swampy ole Georgia. It isn't anyplace I'd choose to live, if given a choice...

My best vacation? I'm so lame. I've never *had* a real vacation...well, okay..one year we drove up the coast to Maine and back, stopping in places like Boston. I was like...8? Does that count? I didn't think so...But I was in Hawaii once. For five hours. Yea, that doesn't count either.
