I've decided I want to welcome red lipstick back into my life again.

For a while, we were on the outs.
I just thought it looked ridiculous and I was into softer, more nude colors.
But I'm bored with nude now.
Similar to the way I am with my hair length, constantly swinging the pendulum between short hair and long, I've decided I want to ditch the softer colors and go for red once in awhile.
But not ridiculous, clown red.
I want Penelope Cruz red.

Now, I do not possess Penelope Cruz beauty, but I do have similar coloring....tan skin, dark brown eyes, and dark brown hair.
As I peruse the plethora of red lipsticks, they all start to look the same and I get all confused and then my attention span gives out.
So this is where you come in:
Do you know of a rockin' red lipstick for me?
I'm looking for something similar to what Penelope is wearing up there.
And I promise to take a pic to show you all the big red reveal!
Kiss kiss,

I use Clarins Rouge Appeal in 10 Cherry Red. It is a bright red color, and I love it! (we have similar coloring) I also use Bobbi Brown Lip Sheer in Ruby 6. Not together, just another red I like, though it is not the bright one you are looking for. Hope this helps!
Supposedly that lipstick on Penelope is "Coral Red" but it doesn't say by whom...? It looks like a Chanel color my roommate used to wear though...and Chanel has gorgeous reds - maybe try those? Good luck!
I think a red probably with more orange tones in it, but other than that I don't have a clue. I bet you could google "which red lipstick should I choose" and get some pretty good options.
I use Nars Christina, but it more of a brownish-bronze with red undertones. My suggestion is to go to Sephora and tell them what you want. They are fab-u-lous about choosing great colors for me. Good Luck! I am STILL searching for the "perfect" lipstick.
A search I found shows she wears Chanel shade No 58 Flamenco.
Good Luck
MAC is the only lipstick that has a red I like. My lips are naturally very pink, so it's tricky to get my shade right - you might have the same problem.
I like the MAC Dubonnet and the Sophisto - they show up totally different on me than the samples show. You might have to go to a department store armed with some Qtips and that photo of Penelope to get it right. Those cosmetic counter girls will be clamoring to help you get it right!
With your coloring, I would not use warm (orange or rusty) reds. They will clash with your skin tone. Make sure the red is a cool red or a "true" red.
BTW..My field of expertise is very closely related to makeup, and often requires color analysis.
Check out the virtual makeover on my site...you can upload a picture of yourself and try all the colors on YOU!! =)

oh how I wish I had that coloring!!!
I'm sure whatever you pick, it'll look fabulous!
And, does this mean you're off the NYC lip gloss? Every time I put it on, I think, "McMommy would be so proud."
I'm a gloss girl, so I don't do lipstick. However, I have friends who SWEAR by MAC's lipsticks. I just did a once-over on their website. I liked, Russian Red and Brave Red....
no recommendations...I'm afraid of RED! lol! But post a pic so we can see, K??!
I use Rare Rubies. I think it is a mabeline. It is in a dark red case! It looks smashing and rocking!
There is a pretty one by Clinique that I love!!!! It is called Angel Red! Only 14 bucks, too!
As I recent red lipstick convert, I wear Laura Mercier "Poppy" and LOOOOOVE it's smokin' hot redness. It's also subtly versitile depending on which liner or gloss you use with it. Very fab.
I wish I could help, but Penelope's red has too much orange in it for my skin/hair, so I don't know. Sorry, can't help! Good luck though.
Channel Red no. 5...it will cost you BIG BUCKE, but let me tell you it is the BEST thing EVER.
okay i have that coloring and I would not try red - i guess those days of ballet recitals still get to me....good luck though!
Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party but I took a breather from blogging this weekend. My fave is Dubonnet by MAC. Luscious, deep and goes on smoothly without feathering or smudging onto your upper lip. LOVE IT!
MAC Russian Red is the most flattering, beautiful red in the whole world. Apply it with a lip brush (secret to great control), blot, apply a little more, and then line with a red lip pencil for a great line. If you want to make it "pop" more, apply a little concealer outside of your lip line. Have fun! Don't be afraid to experiment!
The best red for you (and me) is YSL's red. Go to the make-up counter and check it out. You know I know what I'm talking about!
Nars in a pot-Diablo=awesomeness!
